MTD for Income Tax has added four deadlines a year

From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income (gross, not profit) over £50,000 must keep digital records and send quarterly updates; the threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028. Updates are due on 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May. That is more work per client, all year round, which is where an offshore team helps most. UK GDPR and AML

  • International transfers. The UK has no adequacy regulations for India, so personal data sent to us needs an appropriate safeguard, usually the ICO’s International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, plus a transfer risk assessment. We sign one with you before any access.
  • Your systems. We work inside your practice software and portals, with logins you create and can revoke, so client files stay in your environment.
  • AML stays with you. Client due diligence, engagement letters and your supervisory obligations remain with your practice; we work to your instructions.

How we work

01

Pilot

A handful of bookkeeping clients or year-ends prepared to your checklists, so you can judge the quality.

02

Agreements

Confidentiality agreement, IDTA or addendum, access set up through your systems, a named team.

03

Scale

A fixed monthly fee or a per-job fee agreed upfront, usually well below the cost of a local hire.

India is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of the UK in winter (4 hours 30 minutes during British Summer Time), so work sent in the afternoon can be ready the next morning. US firm? See outsourced accounting for CPA firms.

Frequently asked questions

Can a UK accountancy practice outsource work to India?
Yes. Many UK practices outsource bookkeeping, VAT, year-end accounts and tax return preparation to India. The practice stays responsible for the client, the review and the submission, keeps its AML obligations, and needs a UK GDPR transfer safeguard such as the IDTA because the UK has no adequacy regulations for India.
Which UK work can you prepare?
Bookkeeping in Xero, QuickBooks or Sage, VAT returns, FRS 105 and FRS 102 Section 1A year-end accounts, CT600 computations, SA100 self assessment returns, MTD for Income Tax quarterly updates, payroll journals and management accounts, all as drafts for your review.
Do you submit returns to HMRC?
No. We prepare; your practice reviews and submits as the client's agent, so the client relationship and HMRC authorisation stay with you.
Is outsourcing to India GDPR compliant?
It can be. Because India has no UK adequacy regulations, transfers need an appropriate safeguard, usually the ICO's International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, plus a transfer risk assessment. We sign one with you before any access and can work entirely inside your systems.
How much does it cost?
It is quoted as a fixed monthly fee or per job once we see your volumes, and is usually well below the cost of a local hire. Start with a pilot on a few clients.
